On January 24-27, the RA NA deputy Narek Mkrtchyan was in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. He had meetings in the Parliament (Althingi) and with the prominent representatives of the country's academic sphere. The purpose of the meetings was to promote the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Parliament of Iceland.

On January 28, in Reykjavik the MP met with the Speaker of Parliament Steingrímur J. Sigfússon. The parties touched upon the issues related to the development of the Armenian-Icelandic parliamentary relations and the further activities of the RA NA Armenia-Iceland Friendship Group. Narek Mkrtchyan presented the ongoing reforms in Armenia. Further steps to be taken for promoting the Resolution and the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide were discussed with Margrét Tryggvadóttir and a group of other MPs. The MP conveyed to the Speaker the greetings of the RA NA Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan and the official invitation to visit Armenia.

Narek Mkrtchyan also had a meeting with the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament Sigríður Á. Andersen. As a member of Armenia-Iceland Friendship Group, the MP underlined the necessity of cooperation of the delegations of the two countries on the international parliamentary platforms. He presented the negotiation current phase of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, as well as highlighted the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Parliament of Iceland and the adoption of the corresponding resolution. The MP expressed conviction that with this step Iceland would have its contribution to the prevention of genocides and brought as an example the resolution recently adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.

On January 28, the documentary film Intent to Destroy: Death, Denial & Depiction by Joe Berlinger was screened in Reykjavik. The prominent American Armenian rock musician and songwriter Serj Tankian showed great support to the film. Before the screening Narek Mkrtchyan gave an introductory speech.
